Working with Decimal Numbers

Working with a spreadsheet that requires decimal numbers can a little tricky at times especially if the user wants to manipulate or use the decimal numbers in its exact value.

There a number of ways to work with decimals, from the formatting like the number of decimal places the user wants to display on his spreadsheet, to the value of the number the user wants to consider for the decimal number, Round Up or Round Down.

There are two major ways to work with decimal numbers:

The first of which just merely how would the user want to present the numbers, how many decimal places or number formatting. Number formatting especially for the decimal places can be done through the shortcut in the Home Ribbon or the user may chose to use Format Cells instead.

The second is use function to manipulate the value of the numbers. This can be based on how the spreadsheet is designed or it can be that the user needs to use the decimal number in a complicated formula to achieve the required value.


Here are just a few examples of the functions that be used for a decimal number. Four of the most common functions being used by experienced users to manipulate decimal numbers.

Below formula examples can be used as it is or can be incorporate with a complicated formula to reach the desired answer based on the need of the user.
