How to Set the Password to Protect an Excel File

One of the most efficient way of protecting an important or confidential Excel file is to use the General Options wherein the user can provide password.

General Options features password protection but can only be accessed in Save As part since the passwords should be created upon the creation of the file.

To access General Options user must Click File --> Save As --> at the bottom part of the Save As window Click Tools and then Select General Options.

After Selecting the General Options a small window will pop up wherein the user can provide two passwords with different purpose of protection.

This feature allows the user to protect the file in one or two ways. Firtst is Password to Open which as the name implies a password must be provided in order to open the file. Second is the Password to Modify which will be required in order to make changes with the contents or data of the file. Although once the password to open was provided the other users have an option to open the file as Read Only if they do not know the password to modify.
